Pelotonia: I need your help!

Alright kids.
I did it.
I registered to be a 2012 Pelotonia virtual rider!
And I'm looking for your help!

First, things first. What is Pelotonia?
If you've been around these parts for a while you probably already know what it is. For those of you who are new or are not from the Ohio area you may have no idea what I'm talking about.

Pelotonia is an annual bike ride put on each year (this will be the 4th year) to raise money for cancer research. All proceeds are given directly to the James Comprehensive Cancer Center, but you'll read more about that below.

Who I'm Riding for?

I am riding for my Mother-in-Law (Kev's Stepmom) Lynn.
Lynn with Amanda & Megan (my beautiful sisters-in-law)!
Earlier this year, the Feb/March time frame Lynn was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma.
Multiple Myeloma is a cancer of the plasma cells, white blood cells, in your bone marrow.

Most people that are diagnosed with this type of cancer are older, like in their 70's, but more and more people in the 40-50 age ranges are starting to be diagnosed as the awareness of this type of cancer and cancer in general is rising.

Lynn was having some back and hip pain issues. She'd had them for a while, but also attributed it to something else. She finally couldn't take it and went to the hospital and they started running tests.

It took a couple days and several tests for them to feel confident in diagnosing her with this type of cancer, as it can look like other types of cancers depending on the tests that are run.
It was a rough couple of weeks for the family to say the least. We were all very worried and upset, but we know Lynn is a fighter, and they always say it's all about attitude!
The O'Dell/Ringley's at Lynn's benefit in March.
Lynn went through the appropriate steps of hospital visits, testing, and has undergone a full round of chemo. She had a one week on, two weeks off type of situation. So it was a steady stream of hosiptal visitis for several weeks.

Luckily she responded very well to the initial round of chemo and was put into a remission status.

However, to get her into a more concrete remission status, she currently is in the hospital after a super dose of a chemo and a healthy plasma transplant. As this blast of chemo has wiped out her immune system she has had to stay in the hospital for three weeks to ensure she does not get an illness (even the most common of bacteria) that could make her very sick, or even kill her as she's missing all of the fighting antibodies our bodies would normally have.
After several...and I mean hours worth...of ice-ies to prevent thrush due to chemo her tongue got a litttle blue.
Once her three weeks are up she is going home but has to be on a very strict regime when it comes to the foods she eats and the activities she partakes in - including not being able to touch her own dogs due to bacteria they carry.

I contribute a lot of Lynn's success to the James Cancer Hospital and Reserach Department. They have kept her very comfortable and, although it's not a cure, they have given her a regime that seems to be working extremely well.
I think it's great to note that Lynn's type of cancer treatment has been directly affected by research done at the James. They discovered that myeloma patients no longer have to worry about getting healthy marrow from an outside marrow donor, but the cancer patients themselves are able to use their own healthy marrow to regenerate their own white body cells. That means there is very, very low risk of rejection and infection, and a lot let pain for the patient and an outside donor.
(this doesn't mean that donated marrow is still not needed at times for this and other illnesses, but it's a great start!)

So all this being said I'd love all your help and support being a virtual rider.
No matter the size of your donation, 100% of your tax-deductible contribution goes directly to cancer research at the James Comprehensive Cancer Center (The James Cancer Hospital) and Solove Research Institute. The James is one of only 40 centers in the United States designated by the National Cancer Institute as a Comprehensive Cancer Center, and is a national leader in creating and testing new therapies based on scientific research, many of which are offered nowhere else in the world. Also, know that Limited Brands, the company I work for, will match whatever I raise 100% so the more donations I can get, the more donations the overall. Any donation is greatly appreciated.

If that story wasn't enough for you, I'll add some comic relief with a video that my co-worker John made.
You can also see Kev and I as a couple of the extra's! See if you can find us :)

Pinteresting: By the Sea

So I'm not sure if any of you are aware or not, but I have a cousin that is a pretttty great blogger. Her name is Shane, over at Whispering Sweet Nothings

Shane has come up with this cute little link-up called "Let's Get Pint-imate" (see the column to the right) where she gives you a theme for a Pinterest board. You pin to that board according to the theme for a month. At the end of the month she'll pick a winner and send you a gift/surprise/whatever she wants!

Last month's theme for Living Life Seaside and I wanted to share some of my favorite pins from that with you!

Go over to Shane's blog and check out the new theme for the month, and link up!

Kev and I got surf lessons in Kauai.
It was so much fun.
I often wish we lived closer to an ocean so I could keep learning
...and I love the ocean.

It'd be so sweet to have an awesome underwater camera!

I'd die to have this little nook in my house!

All restroom signs at the beach should be like these :)
I didn't notice the peg leg on the men's sign for awhile!
How cute!?

I've decided that I like the idea of posting a quote once a week. I love quotes, and that's what this blog about...stuff I love. However, I've also decide that sometimes, it won't just be a quote posted. Sometimes I'll do a little, keyword little, writing and have an appropriate quote, or a review with an appropriate quote, etc.

Sound good.

So I decided to start of this off with two things I love - food & a quote.

I made this recipe last night and it's to die for. Well...as long as you like curry!

Call it What You Want...

Hello everyone!

How was everyone's weekend?

Mine was a really great time, and what better way to start things off than with a concert?!

On Friday we saw The Kooks and Foster of the People.
They were so good!
I knew I liked their music before, but I like them even more after seeing them live.
The only downfall is that Friday just so happened to be the chillest night we've had in several weeks.
Go figure!
Looks like they have some really good concerts coming up, and I'll be in attendance of the Girl Talk concert this Friday!
Yep, my life is full of concerts at the moment :)
The group.

Loved getting to spend time with both of my main ladies :)

The Kooks were up first.
I like a lot of their songs. They remind me a lot of the Beatles, which is fitting since they are from England.
If you haven't heard of them I would suggest giving them a listen. Here are my top 3 favorites by The Kooks: Junk of the Heart, Naive, and Ooh La.

I have never been to an outdoor concert that was so packed!

Foster of the People are one of those bands that are even better live than they are on their CDs.
I think that is a rarity anymore with so many artists using things like AudioTunes and voice modifiers.
Anyways, I never realized how many instruments they use in their songs. It seemed like every song they had to change out some guitar or add some special drum.
They are quite the talented group!

Good thing the hubs was there to keep me warm because it was chilly.

The weekend was a success after the concert. Nothing else would have needed to happen for me to feel satisfied with my weekend activities.

Saturday was mainly full of cleaning and laundry for me.
However, since it was a pretty nice day outside and to reward myself for my hard work I had to take few breaks to explore and treat myself to some fro yo.

When I say it explore that really means walking around the pond and woods behind our house.
I love it in the spring and summer, so much green and life back there :)
ps - everyone should check out iPiccy.com, it's just like Picnik...only better!
Look out into this meadow when it's windy reminds me of the scene in Jurassic Park where the Raptors are running around and all you can see is the grass moving.

We have some massive power lines that run out back as well.

I swear these two only started off with 2 goslings!
Either they adopted or we have yet another new gaggle hanging out!

Remember how I told you that I though Ya-goot was better than Orange Leaf?
It still is :)

Finally Sunday came and my parents were down to help my sister with some new apartment tasks like hanging pictures and what not.
Since I was there to help and one of the tasks was to get her a washer and dryer guess what I knocked off my list?

Yep, a new washer & dryer for the O'Dells!!! WOOP WOOP!!
Never in my life did I think I would be so excited about getting a washer & dryer!
Ah the joys of married life and getting older lol.

These bad boys are going to be awesome!!! They will be in at the end of the month and of course you can all expect a picture :)

The rest of my Sunday was spent being lazy and watching all of our Sunday night TV shows.
Who else is sad that Game of Thrones season is over?

This weekend was a great mix of productivity and relaxation for me!
Those are always the best.

What did you guys do this weekend?

Happy Monday!

Friday Letters

Photobucket

Dear Work Day,
You only get me for a half day today! SUCKA!

_____________

Dear Friday,
Thank you oh so much for getting here quite quickly!
Even with Monday off and a half day today you this week has been quite rough.
_____________

Dear Hubins,
Put the iPad down. lol.
Folks we have someone who is more obsessed with their iPad then I am. lol.
_____________

Dear Gunner,
I love you, but I think you need to man doggy up.
The fact that I had to kill a fly in the bedroom so you wouldn't hide under the bed all night is a little ridiculous.
Even worse, you still continue to hide under the bed two nights after I killed the fly.
_____________

Dear Nails,
Be prepared to be worked this afternoon by Junie.
You are in miserable shape and it's going to take some work to get you back to your awesomeness.
Now I just need to figure out what I want to do with you!
Options, options, options...which one do you guys like?
{via}
_____________

Dear Foster of the People Concert,
You are the second concert of the week and you are outside.
You have to fill the shoes of Edward Sharpe, but the fact that you are outdoors already makes you a little bit better.
Thank you for starting off my weekend right :)

_____________

Dear Ohio Weather,
Even though the concert is outside rain or shine you better shine!
_____________

Dear Donuts,
Happy National Donut Day!
I believe it's only right to eat one of you today.
_____________

Dear Hubins,
I've had a great week with you!
Not that we don't normally have good weeks, but this week has seemed especially pleasant.
Why?
Not completely sure, but parts of it have to do with having Monday off together, air humping guy at the concert, and late night pillow talk lol.
_____________

Dear Blogland,
I hope you are all have a wonderful weekend.

Happy Friday!
