Columbus Love: Harvest Pizza

Good morning folks!

In a few earlier posts I expressed my intentions to start showing off this city I live in!
Well I meant it.
I love Columbus!
It's a hopping city with so much to offer...yes, even in Ohio!
I'm talking food, cultural events, sports, and amazing areas to explore.
I think at first I am going to start with restaurants, bakeries, etc. until the weather gets a bit warmer and I can actually enjoy being outside and the areas are pretty.

I don't want to say that any of these things that I write about Columbus are reviews so much as letting you guys know what we have to offer!
If you ever come to Columbus I want you to experience it and have a blast like I have in the last 8 years.
I can't believe it's been 8 years since I've moved here - let that be a testament that time really does fly when you are having fun.

Anyways...

First up on the list is Harvest Pizzeria.

I am not sure how clear my love for pizza is, but it's abundant, and I'm telling you guys this place is easily one of my favorites.

Honestly, it's not my favorite because it has a crazy menu or anything, it's the way it's cooked in that brick walled oven, and the atmosphere.
The ingredients they offer are really fresh, I believe like most restaurants in the German Village area they try to buy local.
The slight char the brick oven leaves is just enough of that smokey taste it just completes it.
Makes my mouth water thinking about it...

The restaurant is located in the German Village area of Columbus.
The place itself it quite itty bitty so if you show up with a larger party it might take a bit to get seated.
However, this is the case with pretty much any and all restaurants in the German Village area.

They have the normal beverage options but I believe all their pops come in the glass bottle, which in my opinion are the best!
The beer menu is not very large but they have some fun and different beers to try and it comes in mason jars.
I mean really anymore who doesn't love a good mason jar?

I suppose that even just these two little details are also what makes it one of my favorite pizza places.
Those little things just give them character, character I can appreciate and enjoy!

The menu is pretty small, the amount of topping options are few but I will say that those items vary pretty widely from your basic pepperoni all the way to calms.
I suppose if you are going to a pizza place though you aren't looking for a huge varying menu.
It's pretty much made of 4 headings - apps, salads, pizza, and dessert!

However, having a smaller menu does not mean it lacks!
It does not!
I would say the menu takes some simple classics and gives them a nice little spin.
Plus are there things you just might not think of to put together!

We ordered an appetizer, because this day we were starving!
  Beef "Carpaccio" w/ Bresaola
Cured beef filet, Parmigiano Reggiano, arugula & sprout salad, pine nuts
______________________________

We are all about the "sharing is caring" philosophy in our group of friends so we each ordered a small pizza and split them between the four of us!

Ohio Double Bacon
w/Fresh mozzarella, roasted red pepper, aleppo pepper, oregano

This was the perfect about of sweet and salty!
Not like m&ms and pretzels sweet & salty but more like the creamy mozzarella & salty bacon type of sweet & salty!
 ______________________________

Spicy Yuma
Canal Junction Gouda, chorizo, jalapeno, corn, roasted red pepper, chipotle-spiked tomato sauce

If you like spice you'll love this pizza!
It's not over the top but it's not a nice little kick to it that will definitely clear out those sinuses.
______________________________

Pepperoni
w/ mozzarella, provolone, onion, pepperoncini

This is one of the classics with a twist that I mentioned.
If you like simple with a little pop of fancy this is for you!
______________________________

 Fennel Sausage
w/ Canal Juction Gouda, smoked provolone, onion, fennel pollen

I never thought I'd like this pizza but I love it!
I think it's the Gouda that makes it but then the fennel...
it just adds a little something to it that you can't find anywhere else!
______________________________

By the end of this meal we couldn't even think about getting a dessert, sadly.

I would say that the food is well worth the price, and that price is in the average range.
Not the cheapiest, but certainly not the most expensive.
I might be biased as I've already said that this is one of my favorites, but I really don't think you would be disappointed if you did decide to give Harvest a visit.
and make sure to wear your fat pants, eating pants...whatever you call them....you are going to need the room.
Just sayin'

Happy Thursday!

InstaWeekend :)

This weekend was a pretty good one my friends.
There was just the right balance of having stuff to do and having some down time, which is just what I needed.

Saturday was spent hanging out with the bestest. Jason, Danielle, Kev, and I hit up Harvest Pizza for lunch and then treated ourselves to some macaroons for dessert from Pistacia Vera.
They were so good and what a better way to spend a Saturday afternoon, stuffing your face :)
This is a good transition to tell you guys that I'll be starting a little series about all things Columbus.
You probably noticed the Explore Columbus header!
My plan is to give reviews, show you guys the different areas of the city, and let you know about events we have around here.
Columbus has so much to offer, that's why I love it here, and I want you guys to love it too!
So whether you live here or plan to visit come check out my information or feel free to email me with some questions!
I don't really have a planned day, just as we go do things I'll let you know about it!
First review to come, Harvest! Duh!

Later than night Danielle and I have a sorority function and after we met the guys at the bowling alley!
I haven't been bowling in forever and it was so much fun!
I'm usually terrible but this round I held my own!

Sunday was spent cleaning the house, and cuddling with Gunner!
I spent most of the day lounging in bed watching The Walking Dead marathon and the Blue Jackets Game.
While lounging I look over and Gunner is falling asleep sitting up, goofy pup! lol.
Gotta ♥ him!

What did you  guys do this weekend?

Happy Monday!

OHP!

Happy 2013 everyone!!!!!

Hope it was a great New Years Eve for everyone.
Mine was fantastic!!!

I decided that I was going to take a little blogging break during the holidays.
It was just to busy, and after the fact I realize that it did me some good.
Sometimes, even when you love to do something, a break is nice!

That being said I do plan to do some recapping of our holidays, but per the usual during the busy times I didn't get a lot of pics =/

For today I'm keeping it easier on myself and sticking with the normal Oh, How Pinteresting with Michelle!

Since 13 is my lucky number, it's gotta be true!

Crispy Baked Asian wings. Yum!

This is to cute, and I think way to easy for me to not do!
...and we have the perfect spot for it! Pin It. Saw It. Did It. link up here I come...finally!

This is really cute, and would be something Kev would love for me to own!

Weekend Update

This weekend was a splendid one folks.

One of those calm before the storm kind of times because after this weekend holiday season and preparation is in full force.

Friday was game night over at Ddubs & Jason's place, but first we had to get ourselves something delicious and we opted for Schmidt's!

Now if you living in Columbus you've probably heard of this restuarant, and have even tried it yourself - after the 2 hour wait you usually get put on.
If you do not live in Cbus you probably have not heard of this heavenly place.
Schmidt's is an amazing German restaurant down in German Village (easy enough right!?).
I mean it's legit - brats, schnitzel, sauerkraut, more importantly beer.

The band, Squeezin' & Wheezin, (no I am not kidding, that is the band name) was right next to us!
It was two older men, meet Squeezin' over on the left there, and the other played the tuba.
Get it now Squeezin - accordian player, and Wheezin' - tuba player lol.

They have the BEST cream puffs on the planet.
You really need to get yourself one and some point in your lives :)
Per usual we stuffed ourselves, but we luckly enough to enjoy a nice evening walk back to Jason & Danielle's place.
We met this guy on the walk home and he was by far my favorite.
Who doesn't love a holiday giraffe, and in Ohio of all places :)

We wrapped the evening up with The Game of Things.
Probably the best game of all time. You must get it!

Saturday morning was spent Christmas decorating.
I am not one of those people that have enough motivation to decorate the day after Thanksgiving.
I like being a little lazy after I stuff myself with enough food for the next month.

The mantel was first, and I am not sure I'm finished yet, but for the most part it's all up there.

Some new Pottery Barn outlet purchases for Danielle and I's recent shopping trip.
I think the reindeer is going to get wrapped in some lights or something - any suggestions?
Heck that guy might stay out year round, I like him, and technically he's can be like a regular deer, or an elk or something, not just a reindeer.

3 of my favorite decorations!
By the way, do you follow me on Instagram?
Ya probably should ;P

 Our tree.
A little blurry, we have the weirdest light in our living room, and really I'm not that great at taking dark pictures. Beh.
I love all the different ornaments on there.

I also spent the morning putting together this beaut.
It's probably the best thing I've bought for the house in awhile.
I'd been looking for a little console/cabinet for that area and to give us more storage in the kitchen.
This just happening to fall into my lap.
I found it on Target - find it here
Inexpensive and easy to put together!

Saturday night Danielle and I watched one of her nephews Quinn, while her SIL, BIL, and 3 other nephews tried to go to the zoo lights.
Sadly they didn't make it because of the traffic!
Apparently it was bad, like sat there for 2 hours without movement bad =/
He is too adorable for words.

And Sunday was spent lounging with the hubs.
Thanks for this crazy weather we are having in the great state of O-H-I-O
Wait...Ohio is having weird, completely sporadic weather??? Neverrrr....
I was struggling with a headache so I laid around and was completely unproductive.
I did get to watch the mid-season finale of The Walking Dead which is ALWAYS a plus.
However, now I have to wait until Feb to see it again :( Boo!

How was all of your weekends?

Happy Monday!

Weekend :)

Could this weekend really have been much better?! The weather was awesome, and we got to spend time with friends and family!

Friday night was spent getting my nails done and then hitting up a Premier jewelry part for a friend with Danielle.
Come back Friday so see my nails :)

Saturday was quite the busy one! Remember me telling you that we were having people over and I was making all that food? Well we did, plus more, and it was awesome! Danielle and I started off early going to the grocery store and cleaning up the humble abode. Right in the middle of the day we got a break and got some pedi's! It can't be all work and no play right!?

Anyways once the pampering was done and real worked began...the cooking!

Danielle decided that we should have a dessert and wanted to Corona cupcakes...apparently adult beverages made into cupcakes are our specialty! These were probably some of the most delicious cupcakes I've ever had! I didn't even think they tasted like Corona, but they had an incredible flavor and texture.
Danielle added a little slice of lemon or lime, which we would squeeze over top of the frosting and cupcake before we ate them. Amazing!
Recipe found here: Corona Cupcakes!

Dessert was then of course followed up the rest of the meal.

Apps first. Being Cinco de Mayo the possibilities were endless but we decided to stick with something traditional and make a bean dip, some guacamole, and some of my home made chips :)
The bean dip was very good and it was super easy and quick to make!
Perfect for the hungry guests :)
We decided to take the advice of the blogger that pinned the recipe and went with the refried beans instead of the bean kit they tell you to use.
It was well worth it!
Recipe found here: Bean Dip

You can't have anything Mexican without some guacamole! Hubs is the best at making it too! This round he went simple and made the batch with avocados, lemon juice, red onions, and some fresh cilantro from my little herb garden! It tasted just like Chipotles! I should also mention that it was gone in less than an hour.
Recipe found here: In the hubins head :)

Clearly the dips were a success since they are partly destroyed in this picture. Ignore those (ok don't ignore those, I'm showing off Danielle's and I awesome cooking skills :P) and focus on the red bowl with the chips :) Those my friends are the homemade chips I almost always make when we have Mexican! They are so good and so simple. Go out and buy corn or flour tortilla's, cut them into chips, and fry 'em up! Told ya, simple!

As a note the corn and flour tortilla's come out differently and will taste different. The corn are the traditional form of chip and are crunchier. The flour ones are just as good but are a little bit more fluffy, but take warning as they burn easier too! You can't go wrong with either one.

Next on the menu dinner.
White chicken enchiladas and beef tacos. Yum!
You all remember this recipe right? The chicken enchiladas that went viral like whoa?!
I have already made them and I've been wanting to make them again ever since. I've found one of my new favorite foods ever!  This time I didn't get to use the all white cheese because the store didn't have it but I like the way the yellow cheese added some color. More festive don't you think?
If you haven't already made these you need to!
Recipe found here: White Chicken Enchiladas

Sorry, no pictures of the beef tacos, they were just the regular old tacos and I guess I didn't feel they constituted a picture?! But here is the set up :)

Finally no Cinco de Mayo would be complete without some Margaritas!
We made some Blood Orange Margaritas
The recipe was only for one serving, so of course we tried to make it into four...and it was...not good!
Ok, it wasn't that bad but they were strong as hell. Gave me goosebumps every time I took a drink kind of strong.
I think they could have been good if they hadn't been so strong and if we could have found fresh Red Oranges to juice. I can't say that I would definitely try them, but I'm not sure I'm ready to give up on them yet.
Recipe Found here: Blood Orange Margaritas

Putting that Margaritaville Maker to work :)

  Happy Cinco de Mayo
Hey despite being strong we still drank most of those suckers :)

Sunday was then followed by quite a bit of yard work!
I mowed while Kev went to work on the landscaping. He had pulled out all the bushes and other plants the day before so he was finishing all that up.
Once I was done mowing it was time to lay the dirt to level the foundation and even out the bed overall and
Ta-Da!
This is what we ended with...

as well as a pretty mean sunburn!
Still a work in progress but the next step is to get all the new plants and start digging! Now it's all up to Mother Nature and if she's going to stop the rain anytime soon.

All this landscaping was followed up family pictures with Kev's dad and that side of the family! I'm excited to get them back and share them with you. I believe it's the first time that we've all been in a picture together! We went to Red Lobster looking like a cult in our white shirts and jeans but it was oh so worth it for those delicious crab legs :)

This weekend was a really really great one! Lots of food, sunshine, family, and friends!
Couldn't have asked for much more.

How was your weekend?

Happy Tuesday!
